Alcyone Sail Training

Thank you for your interest in sailing on the Alcyone. This is our 23rd year of
getting youth, families, and adults out on the water in a hands-on,
fun-while-you-learn sailing experience. This year we will be sailing from Port
Townsend, Washington, offering a variety of exciting sailing adventures.On
our six-day trips will be exploring the San Juan Islands. On our longer trips
we cross the border into Canada with a destination of either Desolation Sound
or Barkley Sound. While not a luxury yacht, the Alcyone is roomy and
comfortable. She offers a group of up to six people a memorable sailing
experience in some of the best cruising grounds in the world.

Our sail-training trips are for youth ages 12-18. For youth, sail-training
aboard the Alcyone includes sailing, navigation, marlin spike seamanship,
chart reading, standing watches, small boat handling, knot tying and rigging:
student crew are exposed to all this as well as swimming, exploring and
adventure.

We also offer a special rate that makes it easier for families with children to
sail with us. Any combination of parents and children, that does not exceed
six, can charter the boat at a special "family" rate. We have raised our
daughters aboard the Alcyone, and are accustomed to and enjoy sailing with
other families. Our definition of "children" goes through college aged young
adults, since we hope that our college aged daughter will still accompany us
on family vacations.

For adults we offer two types of trips: full boat charter by a single group
(Alcyone sails with at most six guests aboard), or rent-a -bunk where you
reserve a spot aboard and we supply the other sailors.

We have just posted our 2010 schedule. We are looking forward to stretching
our legs a bit this season. For youth we are offering a San Juan Island,
Desolation Sound trip as well as a trip out to the West Coast of Vancouver
Island to Barkley Sound. Sugar has been wanting to get back out there; it is
always a great adventure. For our rent-a bunk adult trips we have a June trip
to the San Juans as well as a September trip to Desolation Sound. And there
is still one week in July open for a family or adult full boat charter to the San
Juan Islands.
