In the summer of 2005 we left on a 15 month trip. First sailing down to California to participate in a classic yacht race, the McNish Classic, that Grandpa McNish had been putting on for the last 28 years. Since Alcyone had never been down for the race ( it is right in the middle of our season) we decided it was now or never. We spent 2 months visiting in California, waiting for hurricane season to be over, before heading south to Mexico for three months, then on across to the Marquesas, Tuamotus and the Society Islands. In May 2006 we headed back north stopping briefly in Hawaii before sailing for Alaska. Our landfall was in Sitka then we spent the summer of 2006 wandering our way back to Port Townsend. The following links are to newsletters, which we all took turns writing, that we sent out along the way. Depending on how good and involved I get at this webpage stuff, there might be a slide show at the end of each newsletter. |
